HOLSTEIN DRILLING MODULE LOAD-OUT

Project Summary

In May of 2004, the 4,000 t drilling module for the BP HOLSTEIN Spar was successfully loaded out onto the 400 x 100 ft Crowley cargo barge ATKA. The module was constructed by AMFELS in Brownsville, TX, and upon completion, it was skidded onto the barge, using hydraulic push/pull units. To facilitate break-out, additional push jacks were placed behind the skid shoes. During the skidding operation, the barge was continuously ballasted to compensate for the weight coming onboard, as well as for the changes in tide. After loading, the module was seafastened for the tow to its offshore installation site.
