OFFLOADING ROTORS AT ST LUCIE POWER PLANT



Project Summary

On Thanksgiving day in November 2011, Argonautics Marine Engineering, Inc. provided on-site assistance during the offload of 2  Siemens low pressure turbines delivered by cargo barge CHURCH CREEK to the St. Lucie Power Plant in St. Lucie, FL. Each steam turbine was broken down in a lower part, an upper part, and a 168 t heavy rotor. The large parcels were rolled off one after the other, using either 6 or 12 axle Kamag trailers. During the offloads, the barge was ballasted to keep the bow level with the dock.

Three weeks later, a new generator rotor, weighing 176 t was delivered by barge to the same power plant. This rotor was rolled off and moved into the plant, where it was lifted off the transport cradle. The old rotor was lifted back onto the same cradle, secured and tarped, and rolled back onto the barge.   

During these various offload and reload operations, on-site support was provided to the offload contractor.
